Generic efficiency and collusion-proofness in exchange economies

چکیده
The purpose of this paper is to study the kind of e‰cient allocations that can be achieved in exchange economies with asymmetric information, by means of a decentralized mechanism robust to coalitional, strategic deviations. To this end, we define a new strategic equilibrium concept – called strong collusion-proof contract – designed to characterize stable communication agreements in games with di¤erential information against non-binding, self-enforcing and incentive compatible deviations by coalitions. We then construct a strategic market mechanism which, for quasi-linear economies, is such that its strong collusion-proof contracts generically induce the incentive compatible interim e‰cient allocations. Moreover, we show that these allocations can be achieved by strong collusion-proof contracts. We show that the internally consistent extension of the strong collusion-proof contracts generically yields the same set of e‰cient allocations.

Strategy - proofness and Pareto - efficiency in quasi - linear exchange economies ∗
In this paper, we revisit a long-standing question on the structure of strategyproof and Pareto-efficient social choice functions (SCFs) in classical exchange economies (Hurwicz (1972)). Using techniques developed by Myerson in the context of auctiondesign, we show that in a specific quasi-linear domain, every Pareto-efficient and strategy-proof SCF satisfying non-bossiness and a mild continuit...
متن کاملImpossibility results for parametrized notions of efficiency and strategy-proofness in exchange economies
We study a standard model of exchange economies with individual endowments. It is well known that no rule is individually rational, e cient, and strategyproof. In order to quantify the extent of this impossibility, we parametrize axioms on allocation rules. Given an axiom A, a parametrization of A is a continuum of axioms {δ-A}δ∈[0,1] such that (i) δ-A is equivalent to A only if δ = 1; (ii) δ-A...
متن کاملStrategy-proofness and efficiency are incompatible in production economies
In a production economy where a single private good is produced via a non-linear concave technology, no direct mechanism satisfies strategy-proofness and efficiency if the preference domain contains the class of linear preferences. D 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
متن کاملManipulation via Endowments in Exchange Markets with Indivisible Goods
We consider exchange markets with heterogeneous indivisible goods. We are interested in exchange rules that are efficient and immune to manipulations via endowments (either with respect to hiding or destroying part of the endowment or transferring part of the endowment to another trader). We consider three manipulability axioms: hiding-proofness, destruction-proofness, and transfer-proofness. W...
متن کاملStrategy-proofness versus efficiency in exchange economies: General domain properties and applications
We identify general domain properties that induce the non-existence of efficient, strategy-proof, and non-dictatorial rules in the 2-agent exchange economy. Applying these properties, we establish the impossibility result in several restricted domains; the “intertemporal exchange problem” (without saving technology) with preferences represented by the discounted sum of a temporal utility functi...
